Josh Marks

Josh Marks is the Founder and Managing Partner of GreenMark Consulting, LLC, a boutique law firm and consultancy that supports corporations, NGOs, and academic institutions with renewable energy, real estate development, sustainability, and environmental compliance.

Before founding GreenMark, Josh was Co-Chair of the Sustainability Practice Group at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, a national firm with 280 attorneys. There, he advised utility-scale solar companies on project due diligence, development, contracting, and acquisitions, and helped corporations, trade associations, and universities initiate and navigate their sustainability journeys and ESG compliance. He also assisted corporate clients with a wide range of environmental compliance matters.

Prior to his role at Parker Poe, Josh chaired the environmental and sustainability practice at Davis, Pickren, Seydel & Sneed, a boutique law firm in Atlanta. In this capacity, he served as outside general counsel to the largest private landowner in the U.S. and worked with utility-scale solar and wind developers on project due diligence and implementation.

Earlier in his career, Josh worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Regional Counsel in Atlanta and clerked for the Honorable Wendy Shoob in Georgia’s Fulton County Superior Court.

Josh also serves as the President of Georgians for the Okefenokee (GFTO), a statewide nonprofit organization that works to protect the Okefenokee from development. In this role, Josh has been featured in prominent outlets like the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, AP, AJC, NPR, and others, and has testified before the Georgia legislature as well as various local government and NGO bodies on swamp protection.

Before becoming a lawyer, Josh held various roles in environmental advocacy, public policy, and political campaigns.

In his free time, Josh enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and kayaking, and plays drums in a six-piece classic rock band. He lives in Sandy Springs, Georgia, with his wife, Hedy, and is the proud father of Jacob, Charlie, and Ella.
