Representative Experience

    • Conducted comprehensive due diligence and risk assessment for the acquisition of a utility-scale solar portfolio containing 27 ground-mount PV projects in Georgia on behalf of a renewable energy investment partnership.

    • Advised a large real estate developer on the feasibility, design, financing, and construction of rooftop and parking canopy solar projects across a portfolio of holdings.

    • Drafted and negotiated siting and EPC contracts for a large utility-scale solar developer in three states.

    • Advised a solar client on wetlands, endangered species, engineering, hazardous substances, cultural resources, stormwater, and access issues governing numerous 100MW+ utility-scale solar projects in Georgia.

    • Negotiated a master lease and membership agreement for a 500,000-acre landowner wind association in Nebraska.

    • Negotiated and drafted letters of intent, land leases, power purchase agreements, management agreements, and power line easements for utility-scale and distributed generation solar and wind energy projects in four states.

    • Advised clients on development, siting restrictions, site restoration, and mitigation of wetland and wildlife impacts for a 500MW wind project in South Dakota and Nebraska, and a 100MW PV solar project in New Mexico.

    • Coordinated the assessment of hazardous substance contamination and remediation issues at properties controlled by an international food/beverage chain and a national medical lab chain throughout the U.S.

    • Negotiated  environmental risk assessment and indemnification for the acquisition of a 300+ unit multi-family property in Atlanta, GA, affected by significant groundwater and vapor contamination.

    • Represented a client in the acquisition of a 120-acre former automobile manufacturing site adjacent to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for brownfield cleanup and redevelopment as a mixed-use property.

    • Advised a national supermarket developer on Clean Water Act and wetland mitigation strategies for projects in South Carolina.

    • Assisted a client with environmental assessment and risk analysis in the acquisition of a 40-mile railroad line with significant legacy contamination.

    • Counseled a client regarding Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Oil Pollution Act issues affecting a 45,000-acre ranch, including negotiations with the U.S. EPA, BLM, and BIA regional and national officials.

    • Developed a remediation, marketing, sale, and re-use strategy for a 25-acre contaminated quarry site in metro Atlanta, including negotiations with state and local regulatory authorities.

    • Coordinated Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and the acquisition of a 9,000-acre plantation property in south Georgia.

    • Led the acquisition of a 27-project PV portfolio in Georgia for a solar company, involving analysis and resolution of all title, survey, zoning, environmental, wetlands, cultural, and wildlife issues.

    • Coordinated the lease and sale of a 360-acre ranch property for redevelopment as a 30MW utility-scale photovoltaic solar project.

    • Negotiated long-term Class-A office lease agreements and renewals for leading international non-profit organizations, totaling over 50,000 square feet of space.

    • Managed restaurant space leasing for a national restaurant chain in seven states.

    • Negotiated and drafted a template wind energy project lease governing 250,000 acres of land in Nebraska.

    • Led the acquisition of the iconic 42,000-acre bison ranch used for filming Dances with Wolves.

    • Coordinated the legal and business aspects of a 43,000-acre ranch sale, which garnered The Land Report Magazine’s award for Ranchland Deal of the Year.

    • Advised a client on the construction of the first LEED-certified hunting lodge in northern New Mexico.

    • Represented a client in the negotiation and establishment of the largest charitable conservation trust in the U.S., protecting upwards of 2 million acres of land.

    • Represented a non-profit organization in the multi-million-dollar sale of a Forest Legacy Conservation Easement on 2,500 acres, involving the retention of rights for sustainable forestry, recreation, and educational activities.

    • Represented a national land trust in structuring and placing a conservation easement on nearly 7,000 acres in South Georgia, followed by the donation of the fee title to the same property for inclusion in the Okefenokee Refuge.

    • Represented numerous residential neighborhood associations regarding re-zonings, road construction, and commercial redevelopments.

    • Advised a 50,000-employee privately held company on U.S. and EU draft and finalized regulations governing Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emission measurement and disclosure in manufacturing and supply chains. 

    • Directed a client's carbon footprint analysis across nine states and three business divisions, facilitated the development of LEED-certified buildings, and negotiated a carbon credit agreement covering a 350,000-acre forested ranch.

    • Served as Outside General Counsel to the largest private landowner in the United States, which involved coordinating land acquisition, disposition, and management of 2 million acres in North and South America; employment; tax; energy; third-party contracting; and more.

    • Assisted a landowner with restoration and mitigation credit generation involving an outstanding trout stream resource in North Georgia.

    • Advised a national conservation coalition on communications, legislative policy, coalition building, shareholder engagement, and legal strategies to protect the Okefenokee Swamp from a threatened strip mine.

    • Drafted op-eds and letters to the editor for national media outlets on the Keystone Pipeline, renewable energy tax policy, and other conservation issues.
